New things include new stress levels!

Wednesday
One of my finest new things yet – had to leap inside a stationery cupboard before I was then invited into a meeting room I’d never been to before, rendering my adventure unnecessary!

Thursday
I had lots of opportunities to do new things today but stupidly turned them all down in favour of a much-needed early night and because I didn’t even have the energy to decide what to do! In the end I opted for the Hit or Miss Pub - a beautiful 18th century pub in Penn Street near Amersham. I’d like to come back as it has great potential but it was a bit more miss than hit as it was quite quiet and I was made to feel like I was interrupting the staff’s conversation!

Snow joke....

TuesdayA much-needed drink at the Bedford Arms in Chenies. What an atmospheric place in a pretty village – beautiful oak panelling, candles, romantic meals........ and a guy with the most irritating and frequent ring tone I’ve ever encountered...

Number one on the menu

Monday
So embarrassed by my constant short cuts down side roads around Chesham, my new thing today was to seizing the opportunity to buy £1.40 worth of prawn crackers from the China Kitchen, in Little Chalfont as I was waiting for the Chesham train anyway.

Back streets and gGagging

Friday
Some back street in Chesham. I really must stop doing this.

Saturday
A much better day than my new things reflect! Specsavers in Chesham then a shop called Curios.

Sunday
Went swimming at Chesham pool which was spoilt slightly by the charmless assistant and the fact that one of the pool filters was covered in a variety of plasters which is one of the most visceral sights to turn my stomach. Still gagging a bit now!

Elvis and Thai food

Thursday
New thing today was getting lost in new places in Harrow (again, thanks sat nav!) and then drinking in firstly a pub which should have been called Graceland thanks to the Elvis feel, but I think was actually called the White Horse. Then went to O’Neills in Harrow where there was a live band and I spent all of my money on Magners

shortcut to another shortcut

Monday
Another one of my now infamous Chesham shortcuts.
Tuesday
New things were all on the Isle of Wight including getting the bus instead of a taxi to my meeting and various newsagents.
Wednesday
Another short cut – last one this week, I promise! However, this one backfired somewhat and only led me into a school playground in Chorleywood. Serves me right.

Like the economy, outlook gloomy

Monday
Another one of my now infamous Chesham shortcuts.

Chesham - home of the ancient monument called me.

Friday
Had to rush back to the house before our guests so attempted a short cut round the back of Chesham as my new thing, but they still got there before me, meaning some very hasty tidying up.

Saturday
Apple day at Iver Heath - ate toffee apples, picked apples - but didn't have my face painted as an apple nor was there any cider available. Very much like the Phoenix Club's family fun day but no risque bouncy castles unfortunately.

Sunday
Headed for a Sunday walk to Wendover and enjoyed a coffee in the Red Lion. Man I sound old.

Thursday

I disappeared into Chesham Bois woods after realising my two other attempts at new things were lame-o. Firstly, a new type of cider and secondly, sticking loads of old cans into the recycling machine at Tesco in an attempt to get lots of clubcard points!

And are you a member? A true Chesham welcome!

Wednesday
People always say you should try a new exercise class, but in practice when I try to make that my new thing it doesn’t go to plan. My new thing for today was going to be yoga at Chesham Leisure Centre, but when I got there I was told that it was booked and then made to feel bad for asking how to become a member of the gym. The woman behind the counter then started dealing with the angry woman behind me in the queue (because she was a member, see?), before deigning to come back to me when I asked how you become a member. She then answered the phone while I was asking how much it was, so I gave up at that point at did some exercising of my own.

My gambling streak has unleashed itself!

Tuesday
New thing today involved winning the grand total of £4 on scratchcards when I swung into a corner shop I’d never been into before to get cheese and sherbet dibdabs for Mabel’s lunch!

Is it fair?

Monday
New thing was driving (oops – mitigating circumstances) up White Hill in Chesham to the school up there for a talk from BBC newsreader George Alagiah and Joe Human who gave a talk on Fairtrade. I think they were preaching to the converted, but it was a great talk, kicked off by a traditional African drumming performance before a summary of the film Black Gold and its after effects and then a drama by the schoolchildren there. Followed by a tasting session of fair-trade cake and coffee. How the woman behind the counter laughed when I asked if the coffee was Fairtrade....

First visit from a baby...

Friday
The George and Dragon pub in Chesham. Lovely pub, but no drinks at all behind the bar, disinterested staff (who outnumbered the customers) and the distinct smell of feet.

Saturday
Very expensive gift shop in Chesham where we were priced out, but came away with inspiration for making cheap versions of some of the items!

Sunday
On the search for breakfast items that I forgot yesterday, so ended up in the post office, the newsagent and even Starbucks and Caffe Nero. Then onto Great Missenden where I think going on the swing there was new and also to the King’s Arms Hotel in Amersham for a quick lunchtime pint in the sun.

A lotta bottle.

Thursday
Have read too much news this week so am being even more frugal which involves more creativity when it comes to doing new things. However, I was so tired when I got back to Chesham (via bike with no saddle and then train) that I went into Waitrose to purchase a new thing which turned out to be a bottle of Lorina Sour Cherry Lemonade.

I couldn't help but wonder....

Wednesday
New thing was Sex and the City – the movie. The reason for this is that I got covered from head to foot in mud at lunchtime and didn’t have time to get changed before going to the cinema, as planned. Enjoyed it, but might have been better if I had watched it with some female friends or with a glass of cosmopolitan in my hand.

coughing, spluttering and exercising.

Monday
Twas one of those days where I save my new thing until the end of the day which was set to be an aerobics class at Chesham Leisure Centre. Yet, as ever, it didn’t work as I went to the wrong place, so fortunately I had done a couple of rubbish news things during the day including visiting Croxley Business Park in Watford. I think this was all fate playing a hand in my new things as to be honest, I was coughing and sneezing a little bit too much to be even slightly effective at aerobics (which I haven’t done for about 15 years).
Tuesday
New thing was using a talent for navigation I didn’t know I had taking a short cut down to Chichester (via the office as I forgot the vital bits of paperwork I needed). Also, round the back of Hemming in Chichester where they did a fabulous job of fixing my wing mirror! The other new thing cost me considerably more - £6.60 for an aerobics class (which was actually a misprint and turned out to be a body sculpt/weight toning class – actually much better than aerobics!), but I did get the satisfaction of making up a fake name since I couldn’t work out why they needed to know...

Wednesday
New thing was Bourne End – same old same old can be applied to all the traffic I got stuck in. About four hours’ worth during the course of the day!

Thursday
New thing was going to be the SATC film, but I couldn’t get the DVD to work –admittedly I didn’t try very hard though. So new thing was walking down the road to the avenue that heads left and walking down there to where I saw another camper van parked and then scarpering home when I realised I was wearing my slippers.

Friday
Maurizzio’s Italian Restaurant in Rickmansworth for a colleague's birthday. Great meal, if a little rushed.

Saturday
Cafe Kick – brilliant fun for my sister’s birthday! Also a bar around the corner in Exmouth Market with an atrocious DJ – the worst I have encountered since Jongleurs.

Sunday
Back streets around Barnsbury on the way home.

In need of inspiration....

Monday
It’s one of those days where I feel guilty for doing stupid things when it comes to my new thing, so I just decided to just to get something new from the shop since I was in town anyway and I came out with “Moroccan butternut squash cheese parcels”.

Tuesday
Tamworth
