New and old and new!
Sunday
New thing was back road from Loudwater (where we sold lots and lots of Cornish fudge!) to a pub called the Old Queen’s Head in the village of Penn. Very nice for a Sunday stop off.
Monday
New thing was the road between Ashford and Canterbury before going to Motorline Renault. The other new thing was very weirdly going into a record shop on the main street where about 17 years ago, I purchased my first Levellers album – on cassette! Even more weirdly, said record shop currently has a Levellers poster in the window for sale at £3.99 advertising their German tour from almost the same time as my purchase of their self-titled album! My other new thing was walking through the shop to the back where there were some beautiful Indian skirts for sale. Did very well to come out with no more than a packet of Nag Champa!

Saturday
New thing was a walk through the back of Lowdnes Park in Chesham up to Chartridge. Tried once again to go into the Bell - this time the door was open, but the puib was closed, so walked back down into Chesham along Berkeley Avenue.

New roads!
Monday
New, beautiful way home from Renault Watford.
Tuesday
New roads around Sevenoaks – and I found it myself, proving there is life beyond sat nav!
Wednesday
New roads between Guildford and Haywards Heath and ALL of the charity shops in HH!

The crying game
Friday
Nellie Dean of Soho, Subway (just me) and The Northumberland Pub for Mabel’s leaving do. And then an unnecessary and painful tour of London as a very drunk and abusive Mabel wouldn’t leave the pub for us to catch the last train, so we had to get about 10 buses home, which included him throwing me against a railing, him nearly getting stabbed, him upsetting lots of bus passengers and a very upset me getting home, absolutely soaking wet at 5am.
Saturday
Intended to go for a walk around Bray, but it became a drive around Bray.
Sunday
A very long walk around Denham, through the Buckinghamshire Golf Club and miles and miles along the canal path.

Pubs, roundabouts, garages and bumpers
Monday
Intended to go to a pub as my new thing but got into the wrong lane at a roundabout and so was forced to carry on up a road near Chalfont and do a U-turn into a place called Ellwood Drive.
Tuesday
More rubbish new things as I had to climb up a bridge to get over the A40, and then reversed Matthew the van into a side street near Chalfont and Latimer station.
Wednesday
New thing was a garage in Seer Green where they did a tremendous and fast job of fixing my camper van bumper, all for the bargain price of £20 (even if it would have been cheaper for the girl NOT to have driven into the back of me and then ignore my insurance claims). Very impressed with the garage and have restored my faith in human nature and in customer service!

Friday -
Started the new things with a coffee in Bertorelli’s in Amersham then we went to the Full Moon in Hawridge which I had seen recommended somewhere. Though it looked lovely from outside, especially as it was glistening in the winter snow, it unfortunately didn’t live up to expectations from the smell of cleaning fluid from setting foot inside, to the fact we couldn’t have chips with our drinks without relocating to the restaurant where they added an obligatory 10% to the bill. We left and tried the Rose and Crown a bit further down the same road, which seemed a bit nicer.
Saturday
Looked at some houses. Also checked out two pubs in Milborne Port – thought there were three, but couldn’t find the third. The first was the Tippling Philosopher where even the man behind the bar glared at us when we came in, then marginally better was the Queen’s Head.
Sunday
A couple more houses.

Wednesday
Had a little explore of unchartered Chesham on my way on foot to Severalls Avenue for a meeting.
Thursday
Bought the wrong paper, so went into the BP Garage on the way into Chesham to get the right paper! Almost got the end of my car taken off by a boy racer in a Golf who didn’t seem to think that I was driving into the car park fast enough.

Monday - first day back at work :(
Intended to drive up to the Bell in the nearby village of Chartridge but couldn’t find a car park. I realised after my little jaunt down a side road to turn round that I’d done something new and so didn’t need to go into the pub. Which I couldn’t get into anyway.
Tuesday
Had a quick look around the waste management department (and by that I mean rubbish dump) in Rickmansworth to see if it’s like the one back in Sherborne where you can salvage useful stuff. It isn’t.

Saturday
Sunday 28
Wedding in Maxim’s Palace– although I had been to this restaurant in Tai Koo Shing before.
Monday 29
Ngong Ping 360 cable car instead of climbing up the hill to the Buddha on top of Lantau Island! Was still worn out though, just listening to my mum’s tales of getting up at 3am to climb the unforgiving hill many years ago! Had a lovely walk around the island, past the Po Lin Monastery and inside the shrine itself where once again I was haunted by the pictures of all the people remembered here. More cheerfully, had a tea latte while up at the top before a strange descent in which our cable car was absolutely shrouded in mist and we couldn’t see a thing. Very spooky being suspended in mid air like this. Also went to a book shop where I bought the terrific Slumdog Millionaire, and we later enjoyed a beautiful platter of sushi at the nearby food court spoilt only by the terrible service. Not new but worth a mention; dinner at the Royal Jockey Club with my mum’s wonderful friends.
Tuesday 30
Not new but worthy– the Sportful Garden Restaurant for its nonsensical name alone! Went to new shops in Stanley including a charity shop, which is not a common find in Honkers as most people there don’t buy second hand goods. Also met my lovely aunt and uncle in Aberdeen for a really nice but understated meal, then onto a cafe before going to check out the view from their hotel window in a place called Oswold Cheung.
Wednesday 31
Lots of shops in Mong Kok before a superb sushi restaurant and also the Prince Edward branch of Yee Shun Milk Company for a dose of ginger steamed milk!
Thursday 1
Flight home spent crying. So new thing was a place called Ocean Empire in the airport and then watching “How to lose friends and alienate people” on the flight before I “lost the headphones and alienated the sound” on my headset.
Friday 2
Alperton Sainsburys after getting my car fixed very smoothly at Renault Minute at Renault London West. Also a lovely walk around Chorleywood Common before a Simon Loader in the Black Horse pub.
Another fantastic walk in the cold around Penn Street near Amersham where legend has it the ashes of spy Donald McLean are scattered. Had a soda water in the Squirrel pub afterwards and will definitely return to buy more as a thank you as I got a free soda water from a really friendly member of staff.
Sunday 4
A beautiful, beautiful walk around the village of Long Crendon and along some of the Thame footpath, stopping frequently to dance around on frozen rivers and lakes, and also to admire the beautiful snow-covered fields, before admiring St Mary’s Church and the old Courthouse. Warmed up with a coffee in the Churchill Arms and drove slowly home via other pretty villages called Haddenham and Chearsley.

Tuesday
Er – same as yesterday, except I ventured into the toilets this time! Had (after returning from said toilets), wild mushroom and mozzarella risotto with a parmesan crisp. Finally felt like Christmas thanks to a joyous festive atmosphere thanks to carols around the tree and roasted chestnuts.
Christmas Eve
Took dad to the local MOT place, followed by his car on a recovery truck.
Christmas Day
Some film or other.
Boxing Day 26
A taxi to the airport driven by a very nice man. Then watched Wall-E.
Saturday 27
Mum’s local Cafe de Coral for a hotpot!

Thursday
Urban voodoo machine! A band not unlike the Gypsy Kings meeting Gogol Bordello in support of the Pogues at our annual Christmas gig at Brixton!”
Friday
Waterstones in Chesham for some last minute Christmas shopping. For me.
Saturday
Chesham library.
Sunday
Bourne End for an indoor boot sale where we sold lots of fudge to diabetics.
Monday
Stapleton Arms in Buckhorn Weston. What a lovely place!
