Forgot to add in Dirty Davey to the set list! Must have been distracted by the broken lights and awful sound system!
Monday
Stopped for some basil seeds for my herb garden at Van Hage on the road between Chorleywood and Amersham. I am old.

Barrel of a Gun!
Saturday
New thing was driving over to Kentish Town (and environs) to park up and visit the London Forum for the mighty Levellers – wahoo – first time this year!! They were ably supported by Pama International and Hobo Jones and the Junkyard Dogs! Kicked off the evening with a quick pint at the pub next door – a brilliant old-style Laaaaandan pub called The Bull and Gate where the rest of the fans were, and indeed the band had just been before we arrived! Highlights were Hobo Jones’ Tyburn Jig, meeting Simon’s fantastic friend Sean outside before his set and hearing an awesome version of Barrel of a Gun live for the first time.
Set list

Sunday
New thing was going for a walk in the lovely sunshine and stopping for a pint at the Old Swan in Swan Bottom sitting outside in the massive garden. Lovely place except the girl behind the bar got a bit mardy because we asked what crisps they had as she had to recite about 20 flavours.

Boring, some of the 100, then better.....
Wednesday
Terrible – a petrol station in Hemel Hempstead. So I have attached numbers 26-50 of facts about moi.
I used to be a reporter on an award-winning newspaper and in that time I upset novelist Robert Harris and guitarist Nils Lofgren.
But also got to interview David Soul, David Suchet, Chapman Pincher, Nicky Henderson and Jenny Pitman among many, many others.
I try not to eat meat but just can’t give up seafood.
I want more female role models. Male ones include the Levellers, Jeremy Paxman, Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall, Chris Martin, Jeremy Northam, Bruce Parry, Jon Snow and Martin Lewis Money Saving Expert among others.
I love car boot sales way too much!
I hate shoe shopping, but am female.
I was born on the same day as tennis player Lindsay Davenport. At least one of us achieved success in our field (and she’s retired already!).
I put olive oil on almost everything I eat.
In my spare time, I am training to be a masseuse!
I also volunteer with the local Fairtrade organisation and have been a long-time supporter of the Alzheimers Society.
My nickname at primary school was Mango Chutney.
I have never, never, never thrown food away and have more than once retrieved food that someone else has put in the bin.
I think I am 5’10 but my lovely sister who is taller thinks she is 5.9?
Said sister still speaks to me occasionally even though I tried to get our parents to name her Enid in homage to my favourite author. I was 6!
Once rolled down a hill in a giant plastic ball with my friend Nick!
I’ve been arrested three times L
I am obsessed with recycling and before I die want to find a satisfactory answer to the problem of disposing of unwanted video tapes.
I am rubbish at maths despite/because of my dad’s constant arithmetic questions when I was a child.
I passionately disagree with nuclear power, nuclear weapons and nuclear families (only joking on the last one).
I go to yoga about three times a week and nearly always fall asleep.
I am tough but this is belied by the fact I cry quite a lot!
Left unchecked, I can watch endless repeats of Friends. E4’s fault really.
I always buy the Saturday Guardian and agonise about the plastic bag for the magazine every week.
I wear black too much.
When I was a child I spent nearly two years thinking I was Spanish.
Thursday
New thing was heading to Gloucester for a meeting, then heading into the city centre to have a wander and check out the cathedral, which spookily was populated by lots of children wearing monks’ hoods and robes. Had a lovely walk although the good people of Gloucester had a go at me when I was leaving as I stopped at a red light which didn’t go down well. A bloke walking by took time out of his busy day to tell me that because there were roadworks further up the road, I should ignore the red light, which is one of the worst bits of advice I have ever been given. Then headed along beautiful winding roads to Hereford, for a second meeting. As I was early, yet getting into and out of Hereford looked like a nightmare thanks to more roadworks, I had a quick drink at the Grafton Inn.
Friday
New thing was a courtesy car after dropping my van off at for its MOT.

Monday (contd)
More new things as I foolishly decided to go for a run through Chesham along the footpath to Pednor which was beautiful but absolutely a no-no for my bad back. When I got home, I got stuck in the downward dog position trying to take my trainers off. I am old.
Tuesday
New thing was staying in bed until about 11am as my back was hurting so much. Even a sneeze or cough, of which there were many would send me into spasms of pain. I eventually got bored of being in bed and my new things continued with a trip to the music shop in town called Perfect Pitch where a very helpful man re-strung the violin, pointing out that the problem with it, was not in fact the strings, but the bow! New things continued with viewing a property in Kingsclere, then visiting Mabel’s office, then taking him to The Blackbird Pub in Bagnor. I had high hopes for this, with its idyllic location and the knowledge that it must be frequented by lots of actors and people working backstage at the nearby Watermill. Alas though, it wasn’t that great. I paid £21 for two pints and two reheated dinners which must have cost less than £3 to make. Very disappointing.

Monday
Ended up down a cul-de-sac in Chorleywood this morning after trying to find a shortcut to work that would avoid the usual Monday morning traffic. As ever, someone nearly hit me while driving too fast down a country lane, on my side of the road, WHILE. ON. THE. PHONE. Which didn’t exactly put me in the best frame of mind.

Lovely!
Friday
Collected a vegetarian cookbook from a very nice lady from Freecycle, which necessitated a drive to the most north part of Chesham – man, still can’t believe how steep the hill is up here! Lovely lady, and lovely book with lovely recipes.
Saturday
UK Aware – Green show at Olympia (Two) which was a new thing. Got to swish, learn about green ways of living - cars, cookery systems, clothes – there was an opportunity to make your own bag (which I thought I would do at home since I am so bad at sewing). Very interesting. After hours at the show, we went to the Hand and Flowers Pub for a Hoegarden before I fessed to Mabel that I’d been to Wagamama the week before which made him want to go! All other good intentions disappeared as the two of us drunkenly made our way home cursing the Metropolitan line all the way.
Sunday
New thing today was taking advantage of a fantastic coupon in the Times which gave us 241 entry to National Trust properties, so we decided to take the opportunity to go to Cliveden which is right on the doorstep. Typically with anything that is right next to where you live, you end up not going which would have been a shame. I took the opportunity to give Mabel a driving lesson in my van and he did a fantastic job. No crunching of gears, no drifting backwards, and no shouting or swearing from me!! And WOW! We couldn’t get into the entrance to the house, which was a blessing in disguise, so we proceeded to the next entrance which was substantially cheaper! Parked up and walked along the beautiful and imposing Green Lane, stopped to take in the view of the Thames at its best (no houses, just a couple of cabin cruisers) and carried on up to the Duke’s statue where he has the most incredible view of the house and most of Berkshire! Really stunning location with a wedding going on today – what glorious weather for it! After a beautiful walk around the grounds, we then took poor Sir Matthew Van Camper up a really steep hill to a 17th century coaching inn called the Chequers Inn in Wooburn Common.

25 things about me and Wednesday and Thursday
Wednesday
Two very pants new things which even added together don’t make a very interesting new thing – I went into a junkyard in Rickmansworth and then Blockbusters in Chesham. As those are so boring, I’ve written 25 things that not many people know about me.
I used to be obsessed with football! Playing it, watching it, going to matches. Now I might watch an international game only.
The love of my life is a 25-year-old called Matthew (my T25 campervan!)
I want to be Canadian.
I am completely obsessed with the Levellers since hearing One Way on tape in 1991; I have seen them perform more than 40 times and still can’t get enough!
Despite my occasional West Country twang, I was born in the Midlands.
Half my family is Irish
And the other half is Chinese.
I am scared of the dark. And pigeons. And worst of all, my own imagination
I got my own name wrong on 15-1
I am embarrassingly short-sighted. Hyper myopic that is, not in terms of looking to the future.
At one point I was able to scrape 100wpm shorthand.
I am that annoying person who emails the BBC and complains about their grammatical errors!
If I was a car, I would be a Hillman Imp.
I get very annoyed if I’m in a restaurant and a staff member sprays cleaning fluid indiscriminately at a table near me.
I’ve lived in Hong Kong
Japan,
Canada
France
Am now looking at South America
I cried when Patrick McGoohan died.
And Anthony Buckeridge.
And Kirsty McColl
I currently live in Midsomer and haven’t (yet) been murdered!
My ambition is to have my own column – either a plinth or in a newspaper, don’t mind which.
I am trying to get on Mastermind or University Challenge so my colleague and a couple of former colleagues stop telling me how stupid I am all the time.
Thursday
Can’t believe it’s Thursday already – feels like a three-day week! My car is ready, so my new thing was getting the train to Watford from Chesham (which necessitated going towards London and then back out again –was fortunate to have got onto the right train actually!) and walking to the dealership from the train station.

Fupping Buxtard
Thursday
Went to the Greyhound in Beaconsfield as the new thing before taking le Mabel to Loch Fyne. What was quite funny is that someone had parked really badly outside, and I laughed and asked Mabel if he had parked it. And then the owner came up behind me and got into the car giggling to himself before beeping me as he drove past. Mouth. Too. Big!
Friday
New parts of Chesham on an ill advised pub crawl.
Saturday
Took Mabel to see where he came from in Wishaw, so practically everything we did today was new. Stayed in a hotel in Motherwell and headed into Glasgow in the evening. Had a fantastic Chinese meal in the most unexpected of locations – an entrance which looked like an office building but turned out to be a lovely restaurant with the best service I have ever experienced in a Chinese restaurant called China Sea.
Sunday
Took Mabel to Edinburgh – he hadn’t been here before (and he claims he’s Scottish!). Went to the Castle (not new) and around some back streets, just walking and soaking up the history. Went to a place called Enoteca for lunch then a charmless place called Maxie’s in the evening for our overpriced meal which I think may have ruined the big man’s birthday L. Other new things –all bars – include the Jolly Judge and a strange bar called Monteiths.
Monday
New thing was the cafe in Rickmansworth station before a training centre in Watford (right opposite Camelot) where we spent the day training and driving cars.

Wednesday
New thing was a petrol station in Watford while on the way to pick my boss up in my campervan. Must have drunk too much last night as I was baffled as to why my car wasn’t outside my house last night and couldn’t quite work out how to get to work! It hasn’t been stolen! But that will come – it’s about the only ordeal it hasn’t yet been put through! Other new things included a variety of stands at the Ideal Home Show where I was very pleased with myself for not buying anything! Bumped into two of dad’s friends there, and didn’t even buy their product! Did succumb to a yasai katsu curry at the nearby Wagamama though, which I’d not been to before.

Monday and tuesday -scraping the barrel
New thing was venturing up to the top of Lowdnes Park on my “run”.
Tuesday
New thing was up a road near some posh hotels in Watford on the way to get my car fixed yet again. Had much better plans, but these were scuppered by a total lack of money thanks to my car and also the need to scrape together a deposit of sorts for a house any time in the next 25 years.

Friday - the best laid plans and all that...
New thing was back streets around the Cowley area of Oxford with the intention of going to see Starsailor which I was very much looking forward to. Unfortunately, instead of being entertained by Starsailor, I spent the next few hours in the company of a broken door window and a no-show from Autoglass who promised me that someone would be with me within the hour (without stopping to ask where I actually was – when I said I was in Oxford, the girl seemed very surprised and said: “oh you’re not at home then????).
Saturday
Once again my great plans for new things were meant to be the official openings of East Garston Shop and the new Newbury Athletics Track, but thanks to my car ended up being a walk through the churchyard of St Mary’s Church in Chesham on my way to the pub for a much-needed drink.
Sunday
Very quiet day today entertaining the folks who travelled from three different parts of the country to ours for lunch. So new thing had to be a side street in Amersham when on my way to collect DG from the station (that’s Amersham station which a nameless person confused with Aylesbury station!).

Thursday
New thing was going to Superdrug in Amersham for an emergency item (which it turned out they didn’t sell!) and some other shops in the town. BO-RING!

Wednesday
Was very fortunate to have been offered a new thing as I was very close to home with no inspiration at all! Got a call from Mabel asking me to head to the gym to get a cancellation form (which he was meant to do about two months ago!). So I did. The guy behind the counter – as is their wont – decided to tell me that I needed to write a letter, but when his colleague heard me complaining about a second wasted journey, they sent me up the stairs to the gym to get a form – yay!

Tuesday (end of the month/end of the quarter!)
New thing today was more swishing, this time in Luton. Not the nicest place I’ve ever been to, I have to say. Full of people with Tourettes – I’ve never heard so much swearing coming from such young people. And even the town hall is hideous – a monolith rising from the street –yuk. I walked the length of the high street but ended up where I started - Brooke’s Cafe Bar! The event was upstairs – very cosy – not too many people here, but a nice atmosphere and a very pleasant hour or so in which I picked up a couple of really nice skirts, and I saw someone proudly marching out with one of my blouses.
