Wednesday

New thing was the toilets at Clacket Lane services en route to a 2nd Christmas with MrM's parents.

Thursday
New thing was the Crew Collection clothing shop that's just opened in town. Baby started crying when we were in there so I had to head straight out of the glamour and change his nappy!

Friday
New thing today was the film Confessions of a Shopaholic. What a pile of dung. It's actually made me quite cross that a film that makes women look like vapid shopping-mad harpies who fall over at will, drop things and shriek and shop way beyond their means could get made. A nice reminder of how frugal I am maybe!!

Boxing Day

Monday
New thing was watching the Muppet Christmas Carol - never seen it before all the way through!

Tuesday
The new shop in town called Stormfront where we stroked a couple of iPads...

Saturday

New thing was a trip to the children's wing of the hospital for MrBaby's heel prick test.

Sunday
Christmas DAy! MrBaby was up most of the night which meant I got to see Wall Street for the first time. Made in 1987 but so, so relevant. "Greed, for lack of a better word, is good".

Oh, and whatever happened to Daryl Hannah?

Friday

Two truly awful films; Carry on Teacher (which I'd never even heard of before) and the equally bad Tamara Drewe which I watched as it was filmed in my hometown! Also, the baby and I met a polar bear in town!

PEOPLE are invited along to the Market Place in Newbury today (Friday) to meet Bjorn the polar bear.
The playful and interactive life-size polar bear Bjorn and his herder Ursula will be visiting Newbury as part of their epic polar adventures.
Bjorn and Ursula have created a show which will encourage all ages to not just watch the performance, but to stroke and pat him too.
Bjorn the Polar Bear, allows people of all ages to get up close to one of the world’s most intriguing animals.
Bjorn is not a real live animal, of course, but he has blinking eyes, a sniffing nose, an opening mouth and also makes live sounds which continues the illusion.
This Christmas event is funded by Greenham Common Trust and managed by the Corn Exchange.

Thursday

First time I'd ever watched Porco Rosso from start to finish!

Wednesday

The new version of Anna and the King. Not very good, but breastfeeding and unable to find the remote....

Tuesday

An amazing day with lots of family and friends coming to meet the little guy! We even fitted in Pom Poko as our new thing for the day while getting to grips with breast feeding. "The blind leading the blind" was my mum's assessment while watching us!

An interesting film by Studio Ghibli with another strong environmental message...

Monday

Well, quite a momentous day. Listening to a phone-in on Radio 4's Woman's Hour on homebirth while I gave birth to our lovely son in the dining room. It was a beautiful day and I even managed to go somewhere new as unfortunately after the birth, I got taken to hospital in an ambulance for some stitches where I got patched up - we got sent home for our first night with our gorgeous boy and I am totally smitted. New things all round!

Sunday

Mad Men series one - don't remember much though..still in labour until Monday!!

Saturday

I think today's new thing was watching the Star Trek movie but as my contractions started this evening, I can't remember!

Friday

Call me the grinch but today's new thing was the Christmas classic Miracle on 34th Street as I'd never seen it before. The original. Amazing!

Thursday

New thing today was the beautiful animation Only Yesterday by Studio Ghibli. This film was made in 1991 but really took me back to my days in Japan. Fittingly, the Japanese title is "Memories come tumbling down" and is about a child that is different to her contemporaries and also is bad at maths- both very familiar themes with me!

Wednesday

The 1946 film Great Expectations...

Tuesday, December 13, 2011

Tuesday

New thing today was the Costa that has just opened in Park Way!

Sunday, December 11, 2011

Thursday

Forunately, Park Way is keeping me entertained with new shops, so today's new thing was Mint Velvet.

Friday
Bit lame this, new thing was more of Danny Wallace's series How to Start your Own Country as I thought it was a film.

Saturday
New thing today was the toilet at ParkWay - not sure it's finished actually!

Tuesday

Still looking for that elusive Christmas present for MrM, I tried Johnsons in Parkway. Couldn't spend the £150 that they were asking for the only pair of shoes that would have suited him.

Wednesday
New thing today was going into the new Asian food shop in town. Unfortunately, Asian usually is a synonym for the Indian sub continent and as such there's no Chinese food available. I wonder if that's why the man in the shop looked so uncomfortable with my presence and almost chased me out!?

Monday

I watched the utterly awful Carry on Constable as my new thing today. As it was made in 1960, I thought it might be funny, but there's not a joke in it, despite the best efforts of Leslie Phillips and even an appearance from a young Joan Hickson (Miss Marple) as a drunk.

Saturday

I'm not a jewellery girl (in fact my fingers have swollen so much recently that I can't even get my wedding ring on -sad face) but today's new thing was visiting the new Parkway shop Fraser Hart.

Sunday

New thing today was watching the Golden Compass film based on the Northern Lights novel from the "His Dark Materials" trilogy. The film was OK - a bit schmaltzy compared to the book which I thought was amazing and not in fact a children's book at all. However, it looks like they will not be making the next two novels into movies....

Friday

New things today were "Mint Velvet" - a new clothes shop in the town and also the Peace Garden at Greenham Business Park.

Wednesday

I thought I was hiring a film on DVD but it turned out to be a TV series so I'll just have to count it: Danny Wallace's "How to start your own country"

Thursday

New thing was the 99p shop in Newbury which has undercut prices in Poundland substantially!
